Coal subsidies and public support in the U.S. 2016-2022, by type
The United States spent more than two billion U.S. dollars cumulatively in subsidies and other energy-specific support for research and development in the coal industry between 2016 and 2022. Tax expenditure was the most-used source of coal support in the United States, accounting for 87 percent of all support in this time period.
