Average PM2.5 life expectancy loss in India 2021, by state or territory
The average person in India could live 5.3 years longer if national average fine particulate matter (PM2.5) levels were brought in line with World Health Organization (WHO) Air Quality guidelines of five µg/m3. This figure more than doubles in the country's capital, Delhi, where the average person stands to lose nearly 12 years of their lives based on 2021 PM2.5 concentrations. In 2023, the average annual PM2.5 concentration in Delhi was 102 µg/m3.
