North American steel scrap exports 2000-2021
In 2021, North American steel scrap exports amounted to over 21.7 million metric tons, down from around 22.8 million metric tons exported the previous year. Steel scrap still holds value and is recycled and reused as often as possible. The scrap is collected from waste streams, wrecked automobiles, dismantled buildings, or other industrial sources, after which it is melted into new products.
