Japan’s nuclear energy consumption reached roughly 550 petajoules in 2021. Japan began shutting down its nuclear fleet following the 2011 Fukushima nuclear power plant disaster. In 2014, the country had an output of zero for the first time since 1966 due to the suspended operation of all nuclear power plants.
