Exclusive Premium Statistic

Leading coffee shop chains United Kingdom (UK) 2016, ranked by store number This statistic shows a ranking of the leading coffee shop chains in the United Kingdom (UK) as of December 2016, based on number of stores. Costa ranked highest with 2,121 outlets in the UK, followed by Starbucks with 898 outlets and Caffè Nero with 650 stores. Costa Coffee is the most prominent British coffee chain, with store numbers in the UK more than doubling in the last 8 years. Not only a leader in the UK coffee market, Costa also operates the highest number of coffee outlets and highest number of coffee shop units in the European coffee shop market. In total, the brand's expansion into the international market brings Costa's store count to 3,277 worldwide as of the end of the 2015/16 financial year.

Starbucks is the only non-British company in the ranking, yet the number of Starbucks stores in Great Britain is higher than in any other European country. The brand has seen an increasing number of licensed stores opening in the UK, while the number of company operated stores has been falling.

Although a lower store count, Caffè Nero is still a favorite coffee chain among UK consumers. Founded in London as a European style coffee house, the brand is also now established in several other countries.
