Leading tea importers worldwide 2022

In 2022, the United States were the leading tea importing country in the world, with imports valued at approximately 560 million U.S. dollars. The United Kingdom ranked in second that year, with a tea import value of about 356 million U.S. dollars.

Tea production worldwide

While many countries, such as India and Sri Lanka, are known for producing considerable amounts of tea, China produces the highest amounts each year. In 2021, the country produced over 3.1 million metric tons’ worth of tea. Some of China’s top tea-producing provinces were Yunnan and Guizhou. Tea plantation acreage amounted to over 504,000 hectares in each of these provinces that same year.

Iced tea

Iced tea is a form of cold tea. The refreshment comes in many varieties, such as lemon or mint iced tea, and can be bought in stores or easily made at home. Peach tea was the favorite type of iced tea among consumers in Italy: in 2018, over 26 million liters of peach tea was sold in the Southern European country. Lemon tea came in a close second, selling almost 23 million liters.
