Frequency trend of preparing/cooking meals from scratch in Great Britain 2005-2017

About how often would you prepare or cook a meal from scratch? (i.e. using raw/fresh/primary ingredients)?

Frequency trend of preparing/cooking meals from scratch in Great Britain 2005-2017 Since 2005 a shift has taken place in British kitchens. When asked in 2017, how often they prepare meals with fresh ingredients at home from scratch, over a third of respondents stated that they do so at least once a day. This was eleven percent higher than findings in 2005. During this time frame the share of those who only cook like this once a week dropped by four percent.
Changing consumption habits?

Figures from the consecutive bi-annual studies were somewhat unexpected, as the average purchase volume of vegetables and potatoes in the UK saw no increase. Furthermore, the only meat that has increased in overall household retail volume was chicken.

Buying local

British consumers hold the view that buying local produce is important. For more than a half of British consumers buying locally was considered either very or fairly important. Only ten percent responded that buying local was not at all important to them. However, under 50 percent of consumers say that they only occasionally buy locally produced food. Additionally, only one third of respondents buy locally very frequently or went as far as to state that they always buy local.
