Number of passengers uplifted by United Kingdom airlines 2022

EasyJet is the largest airline based in the United Kingdom by annual passenger numbers. In 2022, the low-cost carrier transported over 33 million passengers. EasyJet was founded in 1995 and has seen an astonishing market growth until the COVID-19 pandemic hit, when passenger numbers dropped substantially.

Performance of UK airlines

Greatly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021, British Airways experienced a drastic decline of 72 percent in annual revenue between 2019 and 2021.EasyJet also experienced a large decrease in annual revenue of 77 percent between 2019 and 2021. In 2022, EasyJet had returned to 90 percent of its pre-pandemic 2019 revenues, while British Airways had recovered to around 83 percent of its pre-pandemic revenue.

UK air passenger experience

While many people have returned to flying following the pandemic, air travelers in the UK have had to contend with disruptions to their flight experience. The share of air passengers in the UK, who did not experience any disruption when flying dropped to 38 percent in 2022.
