Air France KLM: annual operating result 2010-2021

In 2021, the Air France-KLM airline group reported an annual operating income loss of approximately 1.6 billion euros as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. In 2014, following a two-week long strike of French pilots, the net profit plummeted totaling losses of around 130 million euros. According to the Franco-Dutch airliner, the company reported an operating profit of approximately 296 million euros in 2014 excluding that strike.

The Air France-KLM Group seems to be recovering from the 2014 pilot-strike

In spite of the 2014 strike, the number of passengers uplifted by the Air France-KLM Group has increased steadily, reaching 104.2 million passengers in 2019. This represents an increase of 16.85 million passengers in comparison to 2014. The German Lufthansa had transported 40.8 million passengers more than the Air France-KLM Group altogether.

The increase of the number of passengers transported by European airlines is not necessarily welcomed

There is a consensus on the fact that an increase of the number of passengers transported by an airline is a good performance index. But in recent times, some institutions have been critically observing the increase of the number of passengers transported by European airlines. According to the Dutch Centre of Expertise Leisure, Tourism & Hospitality, for example, outbound holidays with the airplane were responsible for the release of almost eight billion kilograms of CO2 .
