This statistic illustrates the value development of assets (financial assets when available, otherwise total assets) for all financial institutions in Italy from 2002 to 2016. It can be seen that the total assets of Italian financial corporations increased overall during this period, from a value of almost 1.3 trillion U.S. dollars in 2002 to a total value of over 7.1 trillion U.S. dollars as of 2016. Although this was the case, the largest value recorded in the period under observation was found in the year 2013, when financial institutions in Italy held assets totaling more than 8.6 trillion U.S. dollars. The trend of decrease marked latest three years under observation with some fluctuation.
