In 2016, the total alcohol consumption per capita in the country was 2.35 gallons of ethanol (pure alcohol). The Health People program initiated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services established a nation-wide objective of no more than 2.1 gallons of alcohol per capita. In 2017, U.S. revenue from beer sales totaled 33.07 billion dollars, while wine revenues were reported at 12.4 billion dollars.
