Combined length of motorways in Ireland 1990-2018
The total length of motorways in Ireland grew from just 26 kilometers in 1990 to 916 kilometers by the end of 2017. This value then remained unchanged in 2018. The notable increase between 2005 and 2010 is due to the Major Inter-Urban Motorway Project, which created improved transport links between many Irish cities. Passenger cars are by far the most common mode of land transportation in the country.
