Northern Hemisphere's sea ice extent in December 1980-2022
In December 2022, the extent of sea ice in the northern hemisphere reached 11.9 million square kilometers, down from 12.15 million square kilometers a year earlier. While this is not the lowest figure recorded in recent years, it is still below the 30-year average of 12.4 million square kilometers recorded between 1991 and 2020.
