Southern Hemisphere monthly ice extent 2023

As of July 2023, the Southern Hemisphere's sea ice reached an extent of 13.5 million square kilometers. In 1980, the sea ice extent was 15.6 million square kilometers during the same month. Sea ice plays a crucial role in regulating the climate in terms of heat regulation and maintaining salinity in the polar oceans.
