Supplementary notes

The source defines asylum requests as follows: as a refugee a person can submit an asylum request if he/she had to leave his/her own country and decides to ask for protection or asylum in another country. An asylum seeker can file a new asylum request based on new facts or changing circumstances when his/her initial request is denied. Asylum seekers who have received asylum under special circumstances are allowed to bring their family to the Netherlands within 90 days. Those family members receive a special derived asylum permit.

From 2007 it is possible to differentiate between the numbers of asylum requests. From 2013, the number of family members joining the asylum seekers is also registered.
