Average monthly social welfare payment in Sweden 2007-2017 The social welfare benefits in Sweden aims to help people in need to reach a reasonable standard of living, which is gained through monthly monetary benefits. The average monthly payment of these benefits fluctuated over the years. In 2017, this amount was on average 7,730 Swedish kronor per month. During that year, the total expenses of social welfare benefits were around 10.7 billion Swedish kronor.
Over 400 thousand recipients in 2017

   In 2017, 407,559 individuals received these social welfare benefits. The number of recipients fluctuated over the years, and the highest number during the period from 2007 to 2017 was in 2010, when almost 437 thousand individuals received the benefits.  

More common to receive the benefits for households with children

   The most common receiving households were single woman households with children. 16.7 percent of all single-woman households with children received social welfare benefits in 2017, and 11.6 percent of all households consisting of single men with children received the benefits. In general, the share of receiving households was higher for the ones with children than the ones without.
