Number of prisoners in Finland 2021, by gender and prison type
As of 2021, the number of prisoners in all prisons in Finland amounted to 2,809. There were 1,860 prisoners in closed prisons, of which 124 were female inmates and 1,736 male inmates.
Prisoners, who are deemed to adapt to the freer conditions than the conditions in closed prisons, are placed in open prisons.
