Category A refers to engineers licensed to perform basic line maintenance and simple defect rectification.

Category B1 refers to engineers licensed to work on structural, electrical and engine fault detection and repair.

Category B2 refers to engineers licensed to perform work on avionic and electrical systems.

Category C refers to engineers licensed to approve the release of aircraft into service.
