There were 832 drilled but uncompleted oil and gas wells in the Permian basin in October 2023. Permian had the highest figures in the period under consideration, although there has been a notable decline in such wells since 2021. Meanwhile, the number of U.S. oil and gas rigs in use has been increasing from a coronavirus pandemic-induced low and climbed over 700 units from early 2022 onward.
