Europe: Volkswagen car sales from 2011-2022
Volkswagen Europe has experienced a decreasing trend in its sales figures in the post-pandemic era. New Volkswagen registrations dipped by nearly six percent between 2021 and 2022, down to around 1.2 million vehicles sold. Volkswagen's European car sales fluctuated between 2011 and 2021, peaking at around 1.8 million units sold in 2018. Volkswagen reported a drop in sales in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent automotive semiconductor shortage.
