Number of Japanese overseas travelers 2011-2021
In 2021, the number of Japanese travelling overseas amounted to approximately half a million, a fraction of what is was in 2019. With the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic, Japan's inbound and outbound travel shrank to a minimum. In pre-COVID-19 times, popular destinations of Japanese tourists included the United States (esp. Hawaii) and regions in close proximity to the Japanese archipelago such as South Korea and Taiwan.
