Toverland is a theme park located in Sevenum, Limburg. Initially, Toverland began as an indoor amusement park, which eventually grew into a middle-sized theme park with a total of 534 thousand visitors in 2020. The park welcomed around 300 thousand fewer visitors in 2020 over the previous year, most likely due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The health crisis created significant challenges for the day attractions industry worldwide, and several establishments in the Netherlands experienced fewer attendance rates as a result.

Most visited theme parks

Overall, De Efteling was the most visited theme park in the Netherlands in 2020. In addition to the Netherlands, De Efteling was also the most visited theme park in Europe in 2020, with a higher attendance rate during the year than Disneyland Park in France and Europa Park in Germany. Focusing on the most visited theme parks worldwide, Magic Kingdom in the United States led all other parks with a total of almost seven million guests during 2020.

Most visited Dutch zoos

Several zoos in the Netherlands experienced major declines in their attendance rates during 2020. For instance, the number of visitors to the Safaripark Beekse Bergen, the largest zoo in the Benelux region as of February 2022, almost halved in 2020 compared to the previous year. Other notable zoos, such as the Burgers’ Zoo in Arnheim and the Rotterdam Zoo in Rotterdam, also suffered from lower attendance rates in 2020.
