How much milk is produced in the EU?
An estimated 15.6 million metric tons of liquid milk were produced in the European Union (EU27) in 2022. This amount is the output after milk waste, milk fed to farm animals, milk used or consumed on farms, and milk used for the production of dairy products are deducted. In 2022, the latter was enough milk to produce about 17 million tons of dairy products that are not liquid milk. Two thirds of these 18 million tons were cheese and sour milk products. European milk was produced by over 20 million dairy cows.
