Netherlands: opinions on legal status of cannabis cultivation 2016

This statistic displays the opinions on the legal status of cannabis cultivation in the Netherlands in 2016. Approximately 30 percent of the respondents stated that they would prefer cannabis cultivation forbidden by law. Currently, the sale and use of cannabis is tolerated in the Netherlands but the cultivation and sale of soft drugs is forbidden. The new government Rutte III, which was installed on 26 October 2017, plans to experiment with regulated cannabis cultivation in the south of the Netherlands.

At this point in the Netherlands cannabis can be bought and sold at coffee shops, but cannabis cultivation is still forbidden. A legislative proposal to end this practice was accepted by the House of Representatives in February 2017, the Senate however still has to accept the bill.
