Distribution of litter on the beach in Italy 2019, by material

According to the study, plastic items made up 81.2 percent of the collected litter on beaches in Italy, while the second most widespread materials were glass and ceramic (7.3 percent). The significant presence of glass and ceramics is due primarily to the presence of building material and glass bottles.
On 93 monitored beaches (396,750 square meters), volunteers found over 90 thousand pieces of waste, with an average of 968 items of waste per 100 linear meters of beach.
