Number of private rent households in England 2005-2023

The number of households that are privately rented by adults with children in England increased between 2006 and 2023. There were about 674 households who lived in a privately rented dwelling in 2006 and by 2023, this figure had reached almost 1.4 million. The number of renter households without children also rose, peaking at nearly 3.2 million in 2023. These figures reflect the growing trend of the private rental sector in the country.
