Number of build to rent homes in London and rest of the UK Q1 2018-Q4 2022, by stage

The number of completed build-to-rent homes in London and the rest of the UK decreased in the fourth quarter of 2022. In London, there were 334 completed homes and in the rest of the country, this figure stood at 361. Just a year before, the completions in London were over 2,400, while in the UK regions they were over 3,000. Meanwhile, the number of new starts in the rest of the UK was substantially higher than in London. Build-to-rent refers to homes that are built specifically for renting rather than for sale. They differentiate from traditional rent homes with their focus on the provision of as services, i.e. professional on-site management, shared spaces, work zones, fitness centers. In the past four years, the build to rent sector has fluctuated, with a drastic decline in 2022 .
