Revenue and net profit of Christian Dior worldwide 2014-2016

During the Fiscal Year 2015/16, the luxury goods company Christian Dior attained a net profit of around 4.16 billion euros for a revenue of almost 38 billion. In the previous fiscal year, 2014/15 the company’s revenue amounted to around 35 billion euros and its net profit to roughly 6.1 billion euros. Christian Dior is one of the most emblematic fashion houses in the world. It is in part responsible for France’s, its home country, reputation as a producer of high-quality and refined luxury goods.

The increase in advertising and promotion expenses could explain in part the increasing disparity between the company’s net profit and revenue. Between the 2014/15 and 2015/2016 financial year, the company increased its advertising and promotion expenses from four billion euros to 4.4 billion euros, increasing the company’s worldwide reach. In 2017, the advertising expenses amounted to almost five billion euros and in the same year, whereas its revenues reached almost 44 billion euros.

The company’s effort seems to be aimed at acquiring more customers and diversifying its customer base

The increase of Dior’s revenues and advertising expenses could point out to the company’s efforts at improving the brand’s perception as a producer of luxury goods and at reaching out to other customer groups. This, for example, in a country as the United States, where the luxury goods market was valued at around 192 billion US dollars in 2017. According to Dior’s annual report, the U.S. market represented 24 percent of the group’s revenue in 2018. Asia, however, was the main source of revenue for Dior, accounting the same year for almost 30 percent of the revenue.
