The Republican Party has historically been the greatest recipient of oil & gas companies' lobbying expenditures in the United States. Between the 1990 and 2022 election cycles, the oil & gas industry significantly ramped up its spending on lobbying for political parties. Whereas spending aimed towards the Democratic Party saw only slight fluctuations, lobbying for the Republican Party surged to a peak of 63.6 million U.S. dollars in the presidential election year 2020. This compared to 12.3 million U.S. dollars which went to the Democratic Party.
