Mexico: number of asylum applications 2002-2020
In 2019, there were approximately 70,609 asylum applications in Mexico, which is more than twice the amount reported one year earlier. From January to March 2020, the country registered 17,202 such applications. Between 2002 and 2019, the number of applicants for refugee status received in the North American country increased by nearly 32 thousand percent. In 2018, there were about 16,485 refugees living in Mexico.
