Number of active companies in the construction industry in the Netherlands 2007-2016

This statistic shows the number of active companies in the construction industry in the Netherlands from 2007 to 2016. As of 2016, the number of active construction companies reached a total number of approximately 175,600, over 5,000 companies more than in 2015. When comparing 2016 to 2007, the number of active construction companies rose by nearly 40,000. Since 2007, the number of active companies in this sector in the Netherlands has grown consistently every year. Like the rest of Europe, the construction sector in the Benelux struggles to keep up with the high demand. The total number of building permits issued for new houses in Belgium in 2016, for example, was 8,000 permits less than in 2006. Indeed, the confidence indicator of the construction sector in Belgium was more negative in August 2017 than its European counterpart.
