Sweden: gender of managers in selected sectors 2020

Within IT, logistics, real estate, construction, engineering and manufacturing, a majority of the managers in Sweden are men. Information, communication, and public relations is the only sector where a majority of the managers are women. The sector with the highest share of male managers is construction and mining, where over 90 percent of the managers are men.

According to the Swedish Standard Classification of Occupations 2012 (SSYK 2012), which is a system for classifying and aggregating data about occupations in administrative registers or statistical surveys, the skill level reflects the type of working tasks and their complexity. Level 1 covers elementary education at primary school level. In a Swedish context, this means no or a low formal education requirements. Level 2 covers education programs at upper secondary and tertiary level of no more than 2 years in length.
