This statistic displays the country of origin of the foreign population living in Switzerland in 2016, whose share is more than one percent. The graph shows that the largest foreign born population residing in Switzerland come from Italy, with a total of 316,525 residents. This was closely followed by people born in Germany and Portugal. These three countries made up 42.3 percent of the total foreign born population in Switzerland in 2016.
The only nations outside of Europe with a share of more than one percent were Eritrea and Sri Lanka, totaling 32,888 and 28,639 respectively.
