Christmas gifts from partner in Japan 2019
The majority of Japanese surveyed in 2019 reported to not expect any gifts at all from their partner or spouse for Christmas. Of those, who named items they wished for, most respondents were hoping to receive accessories from their significant other for Christmas, while only about 0.4 percent had cosmetics on their wish list.
In contrast to Western traditions, Christmas in Japan is often celebrated with friends or in private between romantic partners, similar to New Year's Eve in North American or European countries. Rather a time to socialize and attend parties, Japanese Christmas celebrations have little to do with family gatherings or religious traditions.
