Publisher rejections before debut book sale among middle grade authors U.S. 2017
This statistic shows the number of publisher rejections before first book sale among middle grade authors in the United States as of September 2017. The findings reveal that the small majority of middle grade authors (those who write for children between the ages of eight and 12 years old) were rejected by publishers five to ten times before they secured their first book sale. Although most surveyed middle grade authors received fewer than 30 rejections, 2.7 percent endured 101 or more publisher rejections before selling their first book.
