As of 2017, roughly four in ten motorcycles in the Italian city of Bologna belonged to the Euro 3 group. Some 22 percent of motorcycles belonged to the most polluting category (Euro 0 vehicles), while the Euro 4 class accounted for six percent of the number of motorcycles in the city.

*The European emission standards define emission limits for vehicles. The most stringent one, the Euro 6 standards, were introduced for light vehicles in September 2014. Since 2015, all newly introduced models in Europe had to comply with them. By contrast, Euro 0 vehicles are not subject to any emission requirements and are the most polluting category.
