Established in 1930 in Oak Ridge, Tennessee as a telephone company, CenturyLink adopted its current name in 2010. The company currently offers local and long distance voice and data communication services via more than 11 million telephone access lines. In 2016, CenturyLink had about 5.95 million broadband internet subscribers. The company also offers television and home security services and currently has about 40,000 employees worldwide. In 2016, CenturyLink generated over 17 billion U.S. dollars in operating revenues, mostly through its voice and broadband consumer segments.
CenturyLink also currently offers a fiber-optic based Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) service named Prism TV in select markets. The number of CenturyLink’s Prism TV subscribers has been on the rise, amounting to 325 thousand in 2016.
