Industry revenue of »retail sale of games and toys in specialised stores« in Norway 2011-2023

Mirroring the trend in countries such as Denmark, Switzerland and Portugal to name a few, revenues generated from the retail sale of games and toys in specialised stores in Norway are projected to decline from 347.9 million U.S. dollars in 2011 to 255.8 million U.S. dollars by 2023. This can be attributed to the shifting consumer preference from brick and mortar to online stores, owing to the deep discounting strategies, better product variety and of course, the free delivery services on offer. As a result, revenues generated from online sales of toys are projected to grow nearly two-fold between 2017-2024. Jollyroom.no is the most popular online store in terms of revenue, with net sales worth 22 million U.S. dollars in 2018. Babybanden.no and lekmer.no fall next in line respectively. Among the most popular toys sold include video game consoles, followed by plastic and other toys, construction sets and models, and toys for toddlers and kids.

Additionally, the sector has also been impacted from the rising toy imports, mainly from China. In 2019, the import value of baby carriages, toys, games and sporting goods into Norway amounted to roughly 5.5 billion Norwegian kroner.
