Other prominent stores in this list include Costco, Aldi, and Kroger. Meanwhile, brands like Lidl, Hy-Vee, and Stop & Shop are not as familiar to U.S. consumers.

With 69 percent popularity, Walmart is by far the most popular grocery store in the U.S., followed by Aldi and Target at a considerable distance. On the other hand, stores like Whole Foods Market, Fred Meyer, and Lidl enjoy only a smaller share of customer preference, indicating a potential need for these brands to work on their market presence and customer engagement strategies.

Walmart tops the usage ranking

There’s no stopping Walmart. Not only does the grocery store chain top the rankings in terms of brand awareness, it is also the most widely used grocery store brand in the U.S.. Around 70 percent of consumers who know the brand shop at Walmart – way more than second-placed Aldi. Ranking third is Target, followed by Costco and Kroger.
