Number of dementia-related missing people Japan 2014-2023
Approximately 19.04 thousand people in Japan were reported to have gone missing in 2023 due to dementia. The number has been on a rise since 2014. In the aging Japanese society, in which around 36.35 percent of the population was estimated to be aged 65 years or older in 2023, dementia is becoming a common cause for the disappearance of people.
