UN global development assistance for health 2020, by branch
The United Nations (UN) is an international agency that represents many governments and aspects of human rights globally including health, women, development and peace keeping. One of the top priorities of the UN is global health and development assistance. The UN sustainable development goals are an important driver of funding globally. With important goals such as reductions in maternal and childhood mortality and eliminating HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases, the desire to strengthen health systems is clear. Funding is given through a variety of branches of the UN. The UN agencies spent together a total of nearly 9.7 billion US. dollars of which 2.3 billion was spent on COVID-19. In 2020, the WHO had the largest distribution of UN funding for health development with about 4.4 billion U.S. dollars in funding and more than a quarter (1.3 billion) went towards COVID-19.
