
Health expenditure increases for mental health in Canada 2010-2018, by care setting
Mental health care is a costly and lifelong struggle for some patients. According to recent data there has been a significant increase in public-sector spending for mental health in community programs in Canada. There was a 56 percent increase in public-sector mental health care spending in community programs from 2009/2010 to 2017/2018 in Canada. At outpatient hospital settings there was only an 8 percent increase in private-sector spending during that time period.
