Largest banks in Denmark 2022, by assets

Danske Bank was by far the largest bank in Denmark in 2022, with total assets amounting to roughly 3.76 billion Danish kroners. Despite its dominance in Denmark, Danske Bank's assets dropped for the second consecutive year in 2022. Jyske Bank ranked second, with 760 billion Danish kroners on its balance sheet.

Leading banks for large corporations

Danske Bank was also among the leading banks for large corporations in Denmark in 2023, with a market penetration rate of 82 percent. Only Nordea had a higher market penetration rate. Nordea had a market penetration rate of 89 percent among large corporations in Denmark.

Banks in Denmark

The number of banks in Denmark decreased notably in the last decade. In 2008, there were 150 banks in the country, but it dropped below 100 by 2017 and continued to decrease even further in the following years. This downward trend in the number of banks and credit institutions is not only present in Denmark but in the euro area as a whole.
