Population in Iceland 2012-2020, by degree of urbanization

In 2020, about 64.5 percent of the Icelandic population lived in densely-populated areas (cities), while approximately 20 percent lived in intermediate urbanized areas (towns and suburbs). The share of the population living in thinly populated areas (rural areas) was around 15.5 percent in 2020.
