Import value of alcoholic beverages India FY 2022, by country of origin

India imported alcoholic beverages from the United States which amounted to approximately 316 million U.S. dollars in fiscal year 2022. The second leading importer was the United Kingdom with an import value of about 192 million U.S. dollars followed by Brazil and France.

Consumption of alcohol

According to a national survey, the highest alcohol consumption among men was in Goa and Arunachal Pradesh. Furthermore, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim have the highest rate of alcohol consumption among women. About 18.8 percent of men consume more alcohol compared to 1.3 percent of women in India. Among various religious groups, the proportion of alcohol consumption by men is higher among Christians and lowest among Muslims. In contrast, the proportion of alcohol consumption by women is highest among Christians and lowest among Sikhs.

Alcohol exports

The export volume of alcoholic beverages from India was about 179 thousand metric tons in the fiscal year 2022. The demand for Indian alcoholic beverages such as malt beer, wine, white wine, brandy, whiskey, rum, and gin has grown on the global markets. The United Arab Emirates is the leading destination for alcoholic beverage export, followed by Singapore, the United States, and Ghana.
