Total capital ratio of Italian banking group Banco BPM 2017-2019

This graph presents the total capital ratio of Italian bank Banco BPM between 2017 and 2019. The bank's total capital ratio increased during the period considered, going from 15.21 percent in 2017 to 17.4 percent in 2019.

The capital ratio is the percentage of a bank's capital in relation to its risk-weighted assets. The idea is that all banks must ensure that a reasonable proportion of their risk is covered by permanent capital and must therefore maintain a minimum total capital ratio of 8%. The higher the capital ratio a bank has, the greater the level of unexpected losses it can absorb before becoming insolvent - so the less risky it should be.

Banco BPM S.p.A. is an Italian bank that started to operate on 1 January 2017, by the merger of Banco Popolare and Banca Popolare di Milano.
Banco BPM is the third largest retail and corporate banking conglomerate in Italy, behind Intesa Sanpaolo and UniCredit.
