In 2018, the Indonesian Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry (ESDM) has set a domestic market obligation (DMO) on coal production, indicating that about 25 percent of the production has to be sold on the domestic market. In 2022, the ESDM decided to keep on going with that regulation for at least one more year. The decision was taken to ensure the business sustainability of the industry as well as price fluctuations and their risk for the domestic needs.
