Most visited Italian municipalities 2019-2021, by overnight stays
Rome was the Italian municipality recording the highest number of overnight stays in travel accommodation establishments in 2021. That year, tourist overnight stays in Rome totaled nearly nine million, increasing compared to the first year of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic but remaining below pre-pandemic levels. Meanwhile, Venice followed in the ranking in 2021, with around 5.7 million overnight stays.
