In 2022, the southern state of Karnataka in India had the highest number of cyber crimes committed with the motivation to defraud. The state of Telangana came second with over ten thousand cases of cyber fraud. The country recorded more than 42 thousand cases of cyber crime motivated by fraudulent behavior that year. These crimes came under the purview of numerous sections of the Indian Penal Code under Information Technology Act (Cyber crimes).
