Piracy as motive for cyber crimes India 2018 by leading state

In 2018, the northern state of Uttar Pradesh in India had the highest number of cyber crimes related to piracy, with over 600 cases registered with the authorities. The country recorded more than 670 cases of cyber crime offences that were committed with the intent of selling or transmitting pirated content that year. These crimes came under the purview of numerous sections of the Indian Penal Code under Information Technology Act (Cyber crimes).
